Interfaith Coalition on the Environment
We are a network of people and communities of faith in south central Pennsylvania advocating on a grassroots level to reduce the ecological footprint of individuals, organizations and municipalities. We will begin with a focus on carbon footprints.
We Think Globally and Act Locally, and we recognize that attention must be paid to three legs of sustainability:
- Environmental sustainability
- Economic sustainability: economic development is important.
- Ethical sustainability: social justice issues are important.
The Interfaith Coalition On The Environment (ICE) has developed a carbon footprint presentation for churches, synagogues, temples and other places of worship. The presentation focuses on the impact of carbon dioxide on the environment, the moral and ethical implications of that impact, and some very practical ways for individuals and congregations to help.
The underlying hope of the Interfaith Coalition on the Environment is that, since the challenges facing the environment call for significant lifestyle changes, perhaps religious communities can help us move toward those necessary lifestyle changes.
